Whom we supported
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. The League of Women Voters of Missouri (LWVMO) takes action on selected governmental issues after study and agreement by its membership. LWVMO encourages members to be informed participants in political activity, but as a nonpartisan organization, it neither opposes or supports any political party or candidate for public office, even when the office is unaffiliated with a political party.
Why we contributed
2018 features an extraordinary amount of activity in anti-gerrymandering, with five states voting on major constitutional reforms to their redistricting process. Election Reformers Network published a report in August 2018, called Laboratories of Democracy at Work, A Comparison of the 2018 Anti-Gerrymandering Ballot Initiatives. Election Reformers Network has decided to provide financial support to the reform process in two of the five states, Utah and Missouri.
In Missouri, the League of Women Voters is supporting an effort to educate voters on legislative redistricting and the reforms in Amendment 1 that will increase fairness, accountability, integrity and transparency in Missouri politics.
