Whom we supported
Julie Mallozzi and Scotty Vercoe are documentary film makers with a wide range of prior projects and film credits, and a new passion to tell stories in film about citizens working to restore our failing democracy. They joined forces in 2017 to focus on ranked choice voting, and before long were deep in a Maine winter filming an epic challenge to get the 61,000 signatures needed to protect RCV in that state. Their documentary, called the Battle for Ranked Choice Voting, Citizens Rise to Fix Democracy, should be ready for release in time for the Fall 2018 election season. See the film trailer here.
Why we contributed
Election reform has to move beyond the nerdy and into the minds and hearts of a broader population. That transition takes stories, and it takes images. A documentary about the success in Maine will be a great help to the Ranked Choice Voting cause as it moves forward in other states and cities.
How you can get involved
The crowdsourcing campaign to fund the finalization of the documentary is still underway. You can make a contribution here.
